Letters to Juliet

I took the girls to see Letters to Juliet this afternoon.  I scored free passes for the sneak preview.  I picked a theater that I thought wasn't going to be too busy and I was right.  We only arrived an hour early and were one of the first 20 people to seat.  The theater filled up quickly in the last half hour.  By arriving early, we got to sit where we wanted.  (I'm that way.  I'd always rather arrive early and sit in my preferred area.  I just feel better sitting in my area.  LOL)

Because the movie was free, I didn't so much as blink at the $4 I paid for S's Sour Skittles....well, maybe just a little.  I could afford the popcorn and drink, too.  Okay, not that my complaining about concession prices is done....  I can't talk about going to the movies without complaining about the prices.

The movie was very good.  I have admittedly low standards for movie, but this one exceeded them.  Basically, a movie can't be too stupid or unbelievable.  I don't even mind if I have it all figured out--in fact more's the better.  Romances are my favorite as long as I can be assured that no one dies in the end or that there is a happily ever after ending.  I'm not going to be sorry about that!

Synopsis and SPOILERS:




Sophie is a Fact Checker for the New Yorker, but yearns to be a writer.  She is engaged to Victor, a chef and restauranteur.  They take a pre-honeymoon trip and pseudo-business trip for Victor to Verona, Italy.  Victor is soon distracted with meetings and trips with suppliers, leaving Sophie to wander Verona on her own.  She visits Juliet's Wall in Verona and accidently unearths Claire's 50 year old letter to Lorenzo.  She answers Claire's letter as one of Juliet's Secretaries.  Claire and her grandson, Charlie, arrive in Verona as a result of Sophie's response.  Charlie is none to happy with Sophie as he sees Claire's quest to find Lorenzo as a fool's errand and one that might end in heartbreak.  Will Claire find her Lorenzo?  Will Sophie discover true love with Charlie?


Well, HELLO, this is a Romance Movie!!!!!!

Oh, and I got to see the Eclipse trailer on the big screen.  AWESOME!! (nothing new, same trailer)  Letters... and Eclipse are both Summit movies.

M took the boys to see Iron Man II.  I kind of wanted to see it, but I'll be fine to see it on DVD.  M says it's good, but story heavy with the action mostly in the last bit of the movie.  A got bored and squirmy after awhile.  (He's seven.)  Z (12) enjoyed himself, though.

I got M's apple pie made.  I made lasagna tonight.  (I'm wishing I'd waited.  M was going to get us Chinese food.)  We needed to use of the spaghetti sauce I made last week so it's all good!

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day.....

I plan on showing my family how much I love THEM by baking up some goodies.

M BOUGHT ME EQ7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It won't ship until June 7th with it's release, but I am SO excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got my first card of the morning from S.  She interviewed me a couple of weeks ago about adjectives to describe me, my favorite things, and things I'm afraid of.  What would we moms do without teachers to have Mother's Day projects to complete at school and bring home?

We're off to get free bagels at Einsten Bagels. 

I don't know what my plans are yet other than baking.

I Got Sunburned!

Ouch!

I can't believe it, but I got sunburned today....  It must have happened today at S's soccer game.  Her game started at 11:30 and finished about about 12:45.  I got just enough sun to turn my chest and the side of my neck a nice bright pink!  I didn't realize it until I looked in the mirror this evening when we got home from the soccer awards ceremony.  Now that I saw it and realized it, it hurts.  LOL  I didn't think I'd have to break out the aloe this early.  Here am I always warning the kids to get their sunscreen on.

The days are slipping away so I have no time to be lazy.  I've been searching online and in my memory to find a penguin block.  I had a bevy of choices, but from juvenile to realistic.  We wanted realistic and not too whimsical.  I finally remembered that I had purchased a penguin pattern from one of my favorite designers, Silver Linings Originals.  Linda is the best for her realistic animal and flower paper piecing patterns.  (I've used her patterns before.)

I've printed the pattern and now I just need to pick out my fabrics.

I haven't abandoned New Moon.  My next step is to piece the letters together.  I didn't consider the space I would have to place into between New and Moon so I have to figure out how that changes my design.  Always something with me.....

Block Details:

7" with .5" white frame and "photo corners" on all sides, 8" finished

Levi's jeans and flannel shirt with red cotton fabric for "undershirt".

Wood grain fabric used on left side of block.  (Charlie's kitchen in Twilight is described as having yellow cabinets and dark wood panelling.)

Jacob's note was copied from the book, edited to be on one page, and then printed on Printed Treasures photo fabric.  I pinked the edges and crumpled up the note a little before folding it an slipping it into Bella's pocket.  The note can be taken out of the pocket.

I shoved the wrinkled paper into my back pocket and ran.... (Eclipse, p.5)

Next up?  I'm toying with a Jacksonville, FL postcard block.  It may still include the Paper Panache airplane but I want to make it so it doesn't look like it's crashing.  (I'll have to break out the vellum so I can make the plane point in the right direction without actually reversing the pattern.)

Rainy Days and Headaches

Rainy days and headaches always get me down.  It's a good thing it's not raining because I have a headache.  I woke up this morning with one and nothing I've done has gotten rid of it.  I'm trying to not let it slow me down today, but I so far not so good....

It's another soccer Saturday.  S has one more make up game next week, but today was her last game of the schedule.  A's last game was today, too.  The games overlapped so M went to A's game.  S's team lost.  The BBQ and awards ceremony is afternoon.  If not for the tournament on Memorial Day Weekend we'd be done.  I'm ready for a break and I think the kids are, too.  Getting them to go to practices has been difficult and everyone knows how I hate to argue.

I hope everyone is having as productive of a day as they want!  I'm rarely too sick to quilt so I am sure I'll be working on something or another today.  I'm trying to figure out more New Moon stuff to do.  I printed Jacob's note onto fabric so I need to finish that and move onto the next block.  I've got a pattern on order that should arrive next week for Rosalie's Story.
